shin nakhar at heath ceramics

part of my birthday present was a butter knife carving class taught by shin nakhar of playmountain. the class was at heath ceramics in LA and attended by 8 other students. (sorry about the iphone photos)

first i chose my piece of wood (cherry.)

 then i sketched my design and transferred it onto the wood.  

next i used a scroll saw to cut out the basic shape.

i chiseled the blade end down, carved out a hole in the handle and sanded sanded sanded.

the last step is oiling the wood.

here shin is helping a student brand her knife with the landscape products logo.
